Get some inspo for DIY looks this Halloween

No Halloween costume? No problem. These easy yet effective Halloween looks require no special effects and can be created with just your go-to beauty products that are probably already in your make-up. From sexy to scary looks, we’ve got you covered.

Contoured Skeleton

We all own a versatile little liquid eyeliner, but they can be used for so much more than winged eyeliner. All you need to do to achieve this ultra-chic skeleton look is a good contouring palette and a liquid eyeliner.

This style of makeup can be changed depending on your skill set, face shape and the intensity you want it. Add fake blood, up the gore or indulge in the glamour. Chrissy P has a really easy tutorial for this look.

Lichtenstein Lady

Become a walking piece of art this October in this Roy Lichtenstein inspired makeup. It’s a very simple look that starts with a good liquid black eyeliner. Simply draw comic-book-worthy black outlines, shadows and wrinkles. Draw on fake lashes with the eyeliner and pencil in your eyebrows with a heavy black shade.
For the distinctive tears use a blue cream eyeliner or pigmented shadow, and then trace around it with the black liquid liner. Apply a bold pink or red lip and then line your lips with the black eyeliner. To add the signature dots, start with a vertical line of dots down the bridge of the nose and then bring them out horizontally across the cheeks.

Once you have the bold lines and dots applied you can incorporate other colours and details. Jen Pike, Claire Dim and Joseph Harwood all have great tutorials on a variation of this look.

Mermaids

Have a new blue or green hued palette you want to incorporate into your Halloween look? Mermaid will be perfect for you.
Alongside a bold glittery green, blue or turquoise eye look add some of these shadows to your face. All you need to get the scaly effect is a pair of fishnet tights. Hold the tights up the area of skin you want to look scaly and then paint over them with the desired eye shadow.

The more shimmery and greener or blue toned, the better for this look. Add fake blood to your body for a bleeding harpooned effect and go wild with the dress up. Rhiannon Claire has a gorgeous tutorial on this mermaid effect.

Violet Beauregarde

This Charlie and The Chocolate Factory character is a unique yet very simple to execute character, especially if you already have the blonde bob haircut. Some purple shimmery shadow over your nose, slowly blended across the cheeks and forehead so it looks like its spreading and you have the main effect.

Some purple eye shadow and vein for a super simple yet super effective look. Check out Ellis Addis’ Youtube tutorial.

Pixelated

This is a super unique yet super standout makeup effect that will turn heads when you trick or treat. Apply the foundation to half of your face, creating a vertical line down the bridge of your nose to separate the two halves to separate the two parts. Use four different shades of foundation or concealer, two lighter than your natural skin tone and two darker, to create the pixelated effect.

To create the pixels, use a small straight edge brush and draw sharp, even rectangles shapes in a checker board pattern onto the face. Put the dark shades in the area you would contour and the lighter shade where you would normally highlight. Use the two medium shades to fade the dark and light shades together.

The best thing about this look is you can apply as little or as much as you want. Courtney Hollins has a useful tutorial on this look but we also love Dope211’s wacky take on pixelation.
